The great debate in the music world— is Spotify or Apple Music the better streaming app? It’s like sports talk, which team are you on? To all the daily music listeners out there, what you listen to and what you’re listening on marks your vote in the debate. So which one are you? Let’s talk about what each of these two popular music listening apps have in store.
The beloved Apple Music has the power of releasing exclusives such as Frank Ocean’s Blonde and Chance The Rapper’s Coloring Book unlike Spotify, which hasn’t even released Beyonce’s Lemonade since it was released in 2016. Although both programs release popular debuts, Apple Music offers faster access to new music and exclusive content. It’s layout is simple and coordinates with Apple’s trademark, which people who have Apple products adore. Both apps pay the same monthly price, yet Apple Music just offers a deal of 3-month free trial and Spotify offers a 1-month offer trial. Both also offer special family packs that allow customers to add up to six individual accounts for a grand total of $15.00 per month.
Spotify, having so many songs at the ready, can seem overwhelming for those who want to find new music, but Spotify provides a lot of useful tools for finding new songs to suit your taste. Playlists like Release Radar, New Music Friday, and Monday’s personalized Discover Weekly provide opportunities for subscribers to latch on to new music from artists they’ve never stumbled across on their own. The program’s deep well of abundance of base genres to choose from makes new music ripe for the picking, and other personalized playlists like Daily Mixes are constantly added to the mix. Spotify even has a featured series called Secret Genius, which allows subscribers to have insight of their favorite songs, singers, and bands.
Bowling Green High School students have made their choice through a poll posted on the Purple Gem’s Twitter account. We encourage readers to follow the Gem @BgPurpleGem on Twitter and @BgPurpleGem_ on Instagram to keep up with similar polls.
