Golf team competes in state tourney

The high school golf season has finally closed, and Bowling Green High School Golf performed extremely well in the regional tournament and placed in the state tournament. Only the top five players on the team represented BGHS: seniors Tristen Carter and Blake Stewart, juniors Collier Curd and Clark McDougal, and 8th grader Charlie Reber.

While a high place at the state tournament was the ultimate goal, Coach Adam Whitt took the postseason one step at a time.

“Collier Curd and Clark McDougal are our two best players,” Whitt said prior to the regional tournament. “If we are going to advance to the state tournament, then they have to play well. Senior leadership from Tristen Carter and Blake Stewart will also be needed.”

BGHS Golf won regionals at Franklin Country Club with a team score of 307, allowing them to subsequently compete for the state title. Tristen and Clark tied for third while Collier placed fifth.

“Tristen Carter and Clark McDougal both stepped up and played well on such a big occasion,” said junior Collier Curd.

Franklin Country Club hosted the state tournament as well, where BGHS placed 13th as a team with a score of 327, and Collier placed 6th individually. Now that the season is over, the team plans to adjust their game from this past season.

Collier said, “I’m going to tweak the small parts of my game that I think I could improve upon.”

BGHS Golf is using their offseason time to prepare for a bright future in the 2019-2020 golf season.
